For an example of a counter melody („Gegenstimme”) in fast polka rhythm, the way I play it, look at the notes for Kupferschmiedpolka. On top you find in every note line the main melody line, in between you find the bass notation. You can click on the note sheet to start the attached midi file. The volume of the counter melody is increased in the midi file, so you can hear the counter melody more clearly. In reality the melody with 1st and 2nd voice should be dominating. I play such counter melodies with the Hackbrett (hammered dulcimer) in combination with the Steirische or with the Steirische in combination with two violins. But you can use any kind of instrument that can produce melodies. Different Instruments do have different technical performance possibilities. For instance on the Styrian Hackbrett I like to use the hammers in such a way that they jump repeatedly, so that fast 16th or 32nd notes are produced. See the example in measure 2 und 3. JavaScript is not functioning on your Pc? Click here to start the midi files. On the web page: Stammtischmusik you find the Melody in standard notes or in Griffschrift without counter melody. Griffschrift print view page 1 please click here, Griffschrift print view page 2 please click here. You can listen to the midi files without the counter melodies there or here. f you would like to hear only the counter melody, then click here. With the two files above, the counter melody is turned up in volume, for demonstration proposes. If you would like to hear it in a normal way then click here.
